Hey
readers especially to my beloved Critical Literacy (CL) lecturer, Madam Zariati
Haji Radzali. My name is Ahmad Aqmeel Bin Abdul from Diploma in English
Communication semester 4 (DEC 4A). Critical Literacy is one of the core subjects
in this course and this subject requires me to create my own blog with the
given topic. The first topic that was assigned to me is my first impression on
Critical Literacy.
First
and foremost, the first impression that I can get on this subject is a subject
packed with literacy components such as poems, short stories and dramas. Well,
my first impression on this subject is almost true since I had learned a little
bit about literature during form 4 and form 5 when I was in school. I acknowledged
that this subject is pretty difficult since it requires students to have a deep
understanding on the writers’ ideas and I got this when I was in school. Then, I
had conversations and chats with my seniors. Some of them portrays negatively
on this subject because of its difficulty that leaves negative impact on their
result. I had asked my former literature’s lecture, Madam Yaya for more details
and information regarding this subject and according to her, this subject needs
a deep understanding and patient on observing one’s creative idea while relate
it with my own opinion and understanding. Meanwhile, bibliography and in-text
citation are the new things that I’ve learned in this course. What I can see is
this writing component is a little thing yet, very crucial in one’s write or
work regarding this subject as it determines the credibility of the used sources.
The
first Critical Literacy class that I had attended changed my view on literature
to a whole new level. We had been thought to think critically on any written
ideas. For example, there is an article in CL’s text book about the first
Malaysian astronaut; Sheikh Muzaffar Shukor that portrays him very badly and as
most of Malaysians know is that he had inspires his country a lot. This subject
had given me to observe thoroughly about this article and justify about him on
our own view as an academic person. In CL, I need prove my statements while
using credible sources. This defines critical thinking in literature.
With the guidance from Madam Zariati I believe
and hope that by the end of the semester, I could achieve A in this subject. I’m
ready to embrace this subject. I’m also hoping that
my friends can lend me their hands as I really need them. I will try
my best and work hard for this subject.
